Thanks for picking up on this specific point, as others have on my own blog. It matters a lot if you contact your old boss and apologize. So few people are willing to just cut the excuses and be accountable.

We see it in our politicians. They do something stupid, bad, or wrong — and they offer a carefully-crafted apology that is no apology at all. It’s an explanation wrapped in a rationalization — but the message is clear: Heh-heh, I’m not really apologizing, I’m just don’t what I need to, to get you off my back.

Just buck up and do it, then don’t make the same mistake again. An employer with integrity will notice. It will matter.

Some of the problem too may be the fact that not many people think women are capable of doing work in the construction industry..not to mention many employers say the feel we are just a distraction from the guys trying to do the “real work.” Then there’s the issue of what to pay us..are we worth the same?..usually not, so our paychecks aren’t even that great. Fortunately there are some men (usually fathers and husbands haha) that believe girls are worthy of some knowledge when it comes to fixing their car, pouring and finishing concrete and even learning electrical. I for one would jump on the opportunity to work in the construction field. Never a dull moment.

Brian, Regrettably I have to take it off the table. Typically our business slams during 4th quarter and then fizzles over the winter – so right now is not really a good time to start. If everything goes as planned we WILL be hiring in the spring.
